Apex Trader Funding offers two payment options for reaching a Performance Account:
- Standard: Pay a cheaper evaluation fee, followed by a one-time activation fee if you pass.
- No Activation Fee: Pay a higher evaluation price upfront, then activate the Performance Account for $0.
The trading rules are identical. The main difference is how much you pay—and when you pay it.
No Activation Fee is usually cheaper if you pass within your first few attempts. Standard limits the cost of each failed evaluation and becomes better value after repeated attempts.

Apex Standard vs No Activation Fee: Quick Verdict
The better option depends on your account size and how many evaluations you expect to purchase before passing.
| Account | Cheaper initially | When Standard becomes cheaper |
|---|---|---|
| $25K Intraday | No Activation Fee | Second attempt |
| $50K Intraday | No Activation Fee | Third attempt |
| $100K Intraday | No Activation Fee | Fourth attempt |
| $150K Intraday | Standard | First attempt |
| $25K EOD | No Activation Fee | Third attempt |
| $50K EOD | No Activation Fee | Third attempt |
| $100K EOD | No Activation Fee | Third attempt |
| $150K EOD | No Activation Fee | Third attempt |
No Activation Fee generally offers the lowest cost for traders who pass quickly. Standard is more forgiving if you expect to fail several evaluations because less money is lost on each unsuccessful attempt.
Standard may also be easier to trade psychologically. Having less money at risk during the evaluation could reduce the pressure to force trades or pass quickly.
Always compare the complete cost of reaching a Performance Account—not just the advertised evaluation price.
How the Two Options Work
With Standard, you pay a lower evaluation fee every time you purchase an attempt. The activation fee is charged only after you pass.
With No Activation Fee, the cost of progressing to a Performance Account is incorporated into the evaluation price. You still need to complete the activation process after passing, but the amount due is $0.
Apex confirms that both options have the same rules, drawdown structure, access period and qualification process. The payment structure is the only difference.

| $150K EOD | $189 | $159 | $348 | $249 |
No Activation Fee is cheaper on the first attempt for seven of the eight accounts. The exception is $150K Intraday, where Standard costs $50.10 less even after including activation.
How to Calculate Your Total Cost
For Standard accounts:
Total cost = (number of attempts × evaluation price) + activation fee
For No Activation Fee accounts:
Total cost = number of attempts × No Activation Fee price
The higher No Activation Fee evaluation price must be paid again every time you fail or allow an evaluation to expire.
This is why No Activation Fee can offer substantial first-attempt savings but become more expensive after multiple failures.
Intraday Total Cost by Number of Attempts
| Account | Plan | First Attempt | Second Attempt | Third Attempt |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| $25K Intraday | Standard | $75.70 | $92.40 | $109.10 |
| No Activation Fee | $69 | $138 | $207 | |
| $50K Intraday | Standard | $83.90 | $108.80 | $133.70 |
| No Activation Fee | $49 | $98 | $147 | |
| $100K Intraday | Standard | $98.90 | $138.80 | $178.70 |
| No Activation Fee | $59 | $118 | $177 | |
| $150K Intraday | Standard | $118.90 | $178.80 | $238.70 |
| No Activation Fee | $169 | $338 | $507 |
The $100K Intraday comparison is particularly close on the third attempt. No Activation Fee costs $177, compared with $178.70 for Standard. Standard becomes cheaper on the fourth attempt.
EOD Total Cost by Number of Attempts
| Account | Plan | First Attempt | Second Attempt | Third Attempt |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| $25K EOD | Standard | $164 | $209 | $254 |
| No Activation Fee | $99 | $198 | $297 | |
| $50K EOD | Standard | $194 | $249 | $304 |
| No Activation Fee | $119 | $238 | $357 | |
| $100K EOD | Standard | $248 | $347 | $446 |

| $150K EOD | Standard | $348 | $537 | $726 |
| No Activation Fee | $249 | $498 | $747 |
The result is consistent across all four EOD account sizes: No Activation Fee is cheaper if you pass on attempt one or two, while Standard becomes cheaper on attempt three.
Example: $50K Intraday
During the promotion checked for this comparison:
- Standard evaluation: $24.90
- Standard activation fee: $59
- No Activation Fee evaluation: $49
If you pass on your first attempt, No Activation Fee costs $49 compared with $83.90 for Standard.
On the second attempt:
- Standard: $24.90 × 2 + $59 = $108.80
- No Activation Fee: $49 × 2 = $98
No Activation Fee remains $10.80 cheaper.
On the third attempt:
- Standard: $24.90 × 3 + $59 = $133.70
- No Activation Fee: $49 × 3 = $147
Standard becomes $13.30 cheaper.
For the $50K Intraday account, No Activation Fee offers better value if you pass within two attempts. Standard is cheaper if you require three or more.
Example: $50K EOD
The $50K EOD account produces the same break-even point:
- Standard evaluation: $55
- Standard activation fee: $139
- No Activation Fee evaluation: $119
| Attempts Needed | Standard Total | No Activation Fee Total |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | $194 | $119 |
| 2 | $249 | $238 |
| 3 | $304 | $357 |
| 4 | $359 | $476 |
No Activation Fee is cheaper if you pass on attempt one or two. Standard becomes cheaper from the third attempt.
Standard Can Be Psychologically Easier
Cost is not the only consideration. Standard may be psychologically easier to trade because less money is at risk during the evaluation.
If you purchase a heavily discounted Standard evaluation, failing may feel less financially significant. This can make it easier to:
- Wait for valid setups
- Respect your daily risk limit
- Avoid increasing position sizes
- Accept a losing session
- Trade without trying to recover the purchase price
The higher upfront cost of a No Activation Fee evaluation could create more pressure to pass. Some traders may become overly cautious or force trades because they do not want to lose the larger fee.
This depends on the individual. If paying more upfront affects your decision-making, Standard may be the better option even when its total cost after passing is slightly higher.
The easiest evaluation to pass is often the one you can trade without thinking about how much it cost.
What Happens If You Fail?
Both evaluation types close if you breach the maximum drawdown.
New Apex evaluations provide 30 consecutive calendar days of access. They do not renew automatically and cannot be reset. If an evaluation fails or expires, you must purchase a new one.
With Standard, you lose only the cheaper evaluation fee.
With No Activation Fee, you lose the entire higher evaluation price. The amount incorporated to cover the future Performance Account is not carried over to your next attempt.
This makes Standard more forgiving for traders who are still developing their strategy or have an inconsistent evaluation pass rate.
Are the Trading Rules Different?
No. When comparing the same account size and drawdown type, Standard and No Activation Fee have the same:
- Profit target
- Maximum drawdown
- Daily loss limit, where applicable
- Contract limit
- Minimum days to pass
- Evaluation rules
- Performance Account rules
- Payout conditions
- Platform options
- 30-day access period
Do not confuse the fee choice with the decision between Intraday Trail and End Of Day Trail accounts. Those drawdown types operate differently.
Standard versus No Activation Fee only changes how you pay.
Do No Activation Fee Accounts Still Need Activating?
Yes. After your evaluation is officially marked as passed, you have seven calendar days to activate the Performance Account.
Standard traders pay the displayed one-time activation fee. No Activation Fee traders complete the same process, but the amount due is $0.
“No Activation Fee” means there is no activation payment. It does not mean there is no activation step. If you miss the deadline, the activation opportunity expires and you must pass another evaluation.
You can confirm the current terms in Apex’s official No Activation Fee guide and Performance Account activation guide.
Which Option Should You Choose?
Choose No Activation Fee if:
- You regularly pass evaluations
- You expect to pass before the account-specific break-even point
- Its first-attempt total is lower
- You prefer one predictable payment
- The higher upfront cost will not affect your trading
Choose Standard if:
- You are still testing your strategy
- You may need several attempts
- You want to minimise the cost of failing
- Standard is already cheaper after activation
- A lower evaluation price helps you trade with less pressure
Final Verdict
No Activation Fee is usually the cheapest route for traders who pass quickly. Standard limits the financial cost of failed evaluations and becomes better value after repeated attempts.
Under the promotional prices checked for this comparison:
- No Activation Fee is cheaper for the first two attempts across every EOD account.
- Standard becomes cheaper on the third EOD attempt.
- Intraday break-even points vary by account size.
- Standard is immediately cheaper on the $150K Intraday account.
Before purchasing, calculate both totals using the current checkout prices and a realistic number of attempts. Then consider which payment structure will allow you to trade with the least financial pressure.
